New School Times for 2013-2014 School Year

Pinellas School Board members approved school opening and closing times for the 2013-14 academic year at the Feb. 12 School Board meeting. Beginning in August, the student day at our school will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please note that “early release Wednesdays” have been eliminated, a decision that was finalized in September when the School Board approved a contract with the Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association.

Summer Camp at Palm Harbor Middle

We will soon be inviting many students to participate in the district’s new summer program called Summer Bridge. Goals of Summer Bridge include expanding enrichment opportunities for students, increasing the number of students performing at and above grade level and increasing the number of students passing assessment tests. One of the middle school summer programs will feature activities to improve skills in reading, mathematics and science. This program is specifically for students who are not performing on grade level in reading and math. Online registration through the district’s Student Reservation System will take place March 11-20. The summer program will take place Monday through Thursday, from June 17 through July 25. Parents of students who qualify for Summer Bridge will receive letters with more details. Additional information will also be available on the district’s website, www.pcsb.org/summerbridge. This program will be in addition to other summer programs we offer on campus.

In addition to the Pinellas County Dress Code Policy, Palm Harbor Middle School will institute the following dress code modification:

Approved Clothing: Any color polo shirt (stripes are permitted), t-shirts, school t-shirts, school sports shirt, school club shirts or button down shirts (all t-shirts have a hemmed collar/crew neck), fitted  jeans, khakis, capris or Bermuda shorts, mid-thigh or longer shorts or skirts, (no spandex or form fitting skirts). We understand that it is hard to find a polo shirt or t-shirt without a small logo/insignia over the left or right chest. All logos are to be smaller than a half dollar. In cooler weather, jackets and sweat jackets are permitted worn over proper dress code attire. Sweatpants are allowed at PHMS.  They may be worn in any color. Slogans are not permitted on the back side of pants or yoga pants.

Holes will not be permitted in any clothing. Undergarments are to be covered at all times.

Flip flops and slides will not be permitted.

Congratulations to all staff and students. PHMS earned an "A." We are all very, very proud!
